First Thoughts

In my thoughts on the About Page, you can see the main reasons listed as to why I am posting my thoughts online. Growing up in a family where I attended Church at least three times a week, and becoming a Christian at a fairly young age, I have been in Christian circles my entire life.

My thoughts are very different at this point in my life than I ever thought they would be. Yet, I am more convinced than ever that the Lord has been directing my life and teaching me along the way. I changed quite a bit from how I was taught as a young man in the church. I made many significant changes in my early twenties. Any one of those changes were quite a shift in lifestyle, especially from the modern teachings of the church. But with all of those changes combined, it set me apart from the vast majority of Christians I have known through the years. This has not always been to my liking.

It can be difficult to find fellowship with other believers. It does not come easily in our day of post-modern Christian thinking. Back in the 1980’s and 90’s, there was quite a movement among Christian families to think more biblically and to make significant changes. Those changes were in the areas of birth control, debt, home education, separation from worldly influences, music, modesty, and raising children.

But it seems many people who embraced these principles have retreated from those changes or at least living them out as they did before. And many of those families’ children did not embrace those same choices. So this website is going to focus on those particular areas of the Christian life and seek to find others who are like-minded or are evaluating their life in those areas.

Another point that needs to me made is I am not avoiding other essential areas of the Christian life, i.e. prayer, witnessing, evangelism, missions, giving, etc. But I believe there is not as much division over these matters as the ones I will be discussing. And I believe that others are covering those matters sufficiently. But on the whole, I do see a lack of focus on the areas I am speaking about here.

Another observation that I have made is that there are others who have chosen one particular area to change. Some might feel very strongly about avoiding the use of birth control, but they may be in debt, listen to wrong music, and dress immodestly. Some others may focus on the importance of getting out of debt, but limit the number of children they have, etc. You get the point.

I want this site to be a reflection of what I think is the need of our day. To take all of these areas which are very critical and to align ourselves with the Word of God.

It is my hope that you will come along for the journey; that you will be encouraged by the things you read here; that you will add to the conversation with your words and thoughts; and that we all will live in more accordance to the Scriptures thereby pleasing the Lord with our lives.
