The Greatest Tragedy of the last 50 Years

Let’s get straight to the problem. Christians have taken over God’s responsibility of determining how many children should be born into their family. This is a tragedy of the greatest degree. This is at the root of so many problems that we have in the Church and in society. Because in using birth control to control the number of children that will be born, Christians have decided they know better than God.

Christians have broken the heart of God who loves children. God created the world because he wanted to have children that would follow Him and He could have fellowship with them. Is this not why most parents have children – to love those children and have fellowship with them. But we have determined that there are a multitude of reasons why we should use birth control. I will list some of those reasons that you commonly hear along with the real reason why parents use birth control.

  • We need time to get to know each other first. But really we need more time to ourselves to do what we want to do before we have to give up so much time for children.
  • We need to be more financially stable. But really we want to spend more money on what we have always wanted before the children come along.
  • We need to be older so we can learn about how to be a good parent. But really we are still enjoying our youth and do not want to take on the responsibility of training children.
  • We cannot afford anymore children. But really we have not been able to buy all the things for them and ourselves that we want to enjoy.
  • We cannot provide all the love for more children. But really we do not want to depend on God to give us a love for more children.
  • We will not have enough time to spend with them and all the activities we want them to enjoy. But really we want to see our children participate in extra curricular activities so we can feel good about being a successful parent.
  • We do not want to over populate the earth with so many children. But really we do not want to admit that God knows best about what is right for the earth He created.
  • We will not have as much time to serve the Lord with so many children. But really we will not get to do the things in ministry that we want to do.
  • We might suffer health wise in having more children. But really we are more concerned about our health than we are in obeying God.
  • We do not have the faith to have more children. But really we do not want to obey God and so we are really blaming Him for having a lack of faith.
  • We do not think it is wise to bring more children into a family that is struggling. But really we are saying that we do not trust God to meet the needs of a child in a family that has problems.

Maybe these responses seem harsh. Maybe they are. But the sin of iniquity has infiltrated so many Christians’ lives and they seem so justified with their reasons why they can take control of how many children are born into their family.

We will be discussing this topic again and again on this site. Gratefully there are many who have seen the falsehoods behind these and other reasons for controlling the number of children born. But the vast majority of people who call themselves Christians are still falling short.

It is my hope and prayer that those who have chosen to do the right thing in this area of life will continue to hold fast to the truth in God’s Word. This principle of life is found all through Scripture. In the beginning . . . until the end. But let me leave you with one Scripture for today. Psalm 127:3  Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. The word heritage means possession. In other words, children belong to the Lord. They are not our children, they are God’s children and He gives them to us to raise them in the admonition of the Lord.

So, if you are a parent, the next time you look at your children, realize more clearly, those children actually belong to the Lord, not you. And if you have used some form of birth control to stop having God’s children in your family, you need to consider the sin of iniquity in your life.
