Our trip could not have gone any better. Our time was very productive. The weather was really nice along the way. We met many nice people and saw so many interesting sights. We stayed relatively healthy the whole way and avoided mishaps, bad traffic, and any other problems that might set us back. Until . . .
We were on the final leg of our trip just about to depart out of Canada and cross over into the United States at Sarnia – Port Huron, when something happened to the RV. We later learned it was the transmission. It broke!
Some people ask the question, “Why do bad things happen to good people?” The answer can be found in changing the question, “Why don’t more bad things happen to all people?” Jesus was asked a question by a man who has come to be known as the Rich Young Ruler. He addressed Christ with these words, Good Master. Our Lord’s response was interesting. It is found in Matthew 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
We were amazed that this trip could be so perfect in almost every way. Therefore I was not surprised when the transmission broke. Nor was I surprised at what all happened afterwards. It is easy sometimes as a Christian to think that God owes us a life without problems or misfortunes. Some even teach this should be the case for successful Christians. But the Scriptures actually teach otherwise. The truth is life for believers on this earth can be full of trouble. It is heaven where the rewards come for those who truly follow Christ.
1 Peter 4:13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
