After leaving New York City we are traveling north and have arrived in Connecticut. Once out of the traffic of the Big Apple (one of the names for NYC), it appears life slows down a bit, for which we are grateful. Nine days in the City was enough for these guys from Oklahoma.
Arriving here Friday night, we had plans for Saturday. Wanted to visit the capital building of Connecticut here in Hartford, where we are staying. Upon arrival we found out they are closed on Saturdays. So we went to Harriet Beecher Stowe’s home and museum and because it was a slow day, we received a personal tour which was very enlightening (more on this visit later).

After attending a church on Sunday morning, we rested for the remainder of the Lord’s Day. On Monday our plan was to make a quick stop at the capital building on our way out of town, headed for Canada. But God had different plans.
You see, we were disappointed that on a beautiful day on Saturday, we were not able to visit the capital building, but on Monday morning upon our arrival we found out the reason why. It was about 8:45 a.m. when we arrived and upon entering we passed through Security. The head of Security was gracious enough to tell us that the legislature was in session and were holding some hearings that morning. He said it was a hot topic being discussed that morning because some people in the state did not want to give their children immunizations.

So with that information in hand, we headed to the building where the hearing was to be held. Over the next 45 minutes, hundreds of people came and filled the room to capacity and two overflow rooms.

Many news media came and we watched a very interesting hearing take place that morning of which we have some very strong opinions about ourselves. We met several of those attending which were glad to hear our traveling story and delighted we could be there to support the cause.

We left the hearing around the lunch hour and headed north where we hoped to visit the birthplace and gravesite of Dwight L. Moody (more about him later also).

Upon arrival we pulled into a road not really knowing where we could park. We ended up in a small parking lot behind a building and stuck, with no apparent way to turn around. As we got out to look over the situation, a car pulled up and I braced myself to be scolded for driving in there. Instead I was greeted by a smiling man about my age, who sympathized with me and told me he owned an RV like ours at one time and had the same thing happen to him.

Over the next 15 minutes he helped us navigate around and get going in the right direction. We talked with him and found out that he had grown up across the street and his father had been the maintenance man, which was the job he now had. After telling us about the home and house, he left and we took the next several hours giving ourselves a self guided tour.

What we learned about Mr. Moody being there and what we learned about the same God we serve, is that God is faithful to lead us along the way when we are willing to follow Him. Psalms 25:5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
The Apostle trusted God to lead him each day and he realized that following God called for a willingness to change and a need to be flexible. He wrote these words to the Church at Corinth expressing His desire, but leaving the decision with the Lord. 1 Corinthians 16:7 For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a while with you, if the Lord permit.
As we learn to follow God on a daily basis, our life becomes so much more complete and fulfilling.
